Local Congressman share their endorsements in US Senate race

Friday morning, local Congressmen Raul Ruiz and Ken Calvert announced who they are supporting in the US Senate race.

Ruiz said he is endorsing Congressman Adam Schiff. Schiff represents California’s 30th Congressional District, which covers West Hollywood to Pasadena and Echo Park to the Angeles National Forest.

Rep. Raul Ruiz, who represents California’s 25th Congressional District, released this statement:

“I’ve had the opportunity to work with Adam on many of the most pressing issues facing Californians: expanding and protecting access to affordable healthcare, safeguarding our state’s lands, and most recently, introducing critical legislation to help schools prevent opioid overdoses. As an emergency physician, addressing the fentanyl crisis is personal for me. I know Adam is going to fight to make sure California has the resources it needs to keep its communities safe, and I look forward to continuing my work with Adam to deliver for Californians when he is in the U.S. Senate.”

Schiff’s camp said that Representative Ruiz joins 75 percent of the California Democratic congressional delegation in endorsing Schiff, including Rep. Nancy Pelosi.

A spokesperson for local Republican Representative Ken Calvert told News Channel 3 that he is endorsing Steve Garvey in the race.

Garvey is a legendary baseball player and Coachella Valley resident who is running for office for the first time. He spoke with News Channel 3’s Karen Devine in October about why he is running for office.

“I think California has been a malaise. Nobody really wants to step up and fight the good fight. They know how daunting it is, and I said, well, maybe I can ask a few questions,” Garvey said.
