At least one tornado was spotted and confirmed in Kansas on Wednesday as severe storms moved through the state in the evening and overnight.

The tornado was spotted near the small town of Alta Vista in northeast Kansas, according to meteorologist Jack Maney with KSN News.

Alta Vista is about 65 miles southwest of Kansas’ capital Topeka, and both cities are located west of Kansas City.

The National Weather Service office in Topeka had issued multiple tornado warnings and severe thunderstorm warnings throughout the area on Wednesday, including in Alta Vista. In addition to tornadoes, the weather service warned of high winds and the possibility of golf ball-sized hail.

Severe thunderstorm warnings were also issued in nearby states to Kansas on Wednesday, including in Missouri, Iowa and Illinois.
