Road closures, ways to stay safe under flood watch

A First Alert Weather Alert is in place for Tuesday Feb. 6. And a flood watch has been issued until Wednesday Feb. 7 and 6:00 AM.

Rain from Monday has created the following road closures:

  • Vista Chino is closed at the wash
  • Gene Autry Trail is closed at the wash
  • Indian Canyon Drive is closed at the wash

The Palm Springs Traffic Management Center advises drivers to use alternate routes to avoid delays and backups near closures.

A reminder for drivers, never drive through flooded roadways. Fast moving water can create dangerous conditions for yourself and your vehicle.

Other ways to stay safe on wet roads include checking your vehicle, driving slowly and keeping a safe distance between your car and others.

For the protection of your home, use sandbags. Sandbags can redirect water from entering your house.

Captain James Lopez from the Riverside County Fire Department suggests using 6 sandbags for a household front door. He says garage doors need about 20. Lopez also recommends double layering sandbags for better protection.
