One person was apprehended after managing to bypass TSA security screening at the Palm Springs International Airport Thursday evening.
Airport officials said the incident happened at around 5:50 p.m. A spokesperson with the TSA told News Channel 3 that a ticketed passenger walked through a body scanner that was not staffed by a TSA officer. Another TSA noticed the issue and reported it to the supervisor
“Because the passenger had not been screened for potential security threats, PSP airport operations made the decision to have all passengers in the terminal area escorted back to the security checkpoint to be rescreened by TSA,” reads a statement from the TSA on Friday.
All flights were halted and every person was required to exit, PSP officials said.
The concourses and all post-security areas were cleared and searched. By 6:30 p.m., normal operations resumed and passengers were in the process of being rescreened for travel.
PSP officials encouraged passengers and anyone picking up someone at the airport to check with their airline for the most current flight status.
The person who caused the incident is currently not under arrest or facing charges at the state level, PSP officials told News Channel 3.
“Local law enforcement is relaying details to federal authorities for determination regarding potential federal charges,” airport officials told News Channel 3.
The TSA noted that the passenger had provided a photo ID and boarding pass to the Travel Document Checker and submitted his carry-on luggage for X-ray screening. Authorities reviewed CCTV to identify the passenger
