Palm Springs International Airport restores terrazzo flooring at main terminal building

Big changes are happening in the main lobby of the Palm Springs International Airport.

Crews worked overnight for around a week to uncover and restore terrazzo flooring that was hidden beneath decades-old carpeting, according to Jake Ingrassia, PSP’s communications & marketing specialist.

The work was highlighted in a timelapse shared by PSP.

Ingrassia said the flooring is not original to the historic Donald Wexler building built in 1966, but it does date back to a remodel in the 1990s.

“The terrazzo flooring is designed in the shape of a compass rose, complete with arrows indicating the true directions. It’s all-natural stone, polished to perfection – no waxes, acrylics, or resin coatings, just a stone sealer for protection,” Ingrassia wrote. “We thank our dedicated crew for bringing back this beloved piece of PSP.”

You can check it out in the center terminal next time you visit the Palm Springs International Airport.
