Modernism Week celebrating the works of architect William Krisel

William Krisel had a major influence on mid-century modern architecture in Palm Springs.

He is known for designing iconic homes and neighborhoods like the Twin Palms Estates, the Canyon View Estates, and the House of Tomorrow. These are all a major attraction during Modernism Week.

The Twin Palms Estates was the first modernist community built in Palm Springs. The neighborhood was designed by Krisel in 1956. Walking tours are being conducted in the Twin Palms Estates to showcase some of his beautiful designs.

The Canyon View Estates are another neighborhood designed by Krisel. The area was used in the filing of Olivia Wilde’s film, ‘Don’t Worry Darling’, featuring Harry Styles and Florence Pugh. The Canyon View Estates were built in 1962, and have been preserved over decades.

The House of Tomorrow, also known as famed builder Bob Alexander’s home and the vacation rental where Elvis and Priscilla honeymooned, is one of Krisel’s most admired works. Built in 1960, The House of Tomorrow is a Class One historical landmark, which means the original build of the home must remain intact. However, the home was recently purchased and reimagined. Interior designer Michelle Boudreau renovated the home with new furnishings and fresh surfaces. The homes original features have been preserved.

Modernism Week will feature many of Krisel’s designs, including the Twin Palms Estates, the House of Tomorrow, and the Canyon View Estates — all in Palm Springs.

Modernism Week is currently underway and runs until February 25. Tickets are available for purchase at ModernismWeek.com.
