A 43-year-old man who allegedly injured someone during a robbery in Palm Desert pleaded not guilty today to felony charges.
Carlos Quilon of Palm Desert was charged with one felony count each of assault on a person causing great bodily injury, robbery, burglary, assault with a deadly weapon to cause great bodily injury, dissuading a victim and threatening a victim, according to court records. He was also charged with one misdemeanor count of violating a protective order and faces sentence-enhancing allegations of causing great bodily injury and committing the crimes while on bail.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges and denied the allegations Friday afternoon at the Larson Justice Center in Indio.
Deputies from the Palm Desert sheriff’s station responded shortly before 5 a.m. Monday to a report of a robbery and assault with a deadly weapon in the 73000 block of Guadalupe Avenue, according to Sgt. Daniel Milbrandt of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
As deputies conducted their investigation, the victim was found with non-life-threatening injuries and taken to a hospital, according to Milbrandt. Quilon was subsequently identified as the suspect, but he fled the scene prior to their arrival.
The Riverside County Gang Impact Team took him into custody at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the area of Highway 111 and Oasis Street, Milbrandt said. He is being held at the John J. Benoit Detention Center in Indio on $1 million bail.
