Residents across the Coachella Valley dealt with rain and flooding brought on by Thursday’s storm.
Cathedral City resident Jerry Meza noticed water had accumulated on streets that thend to flood when it rains in his neighborhood.
“Horizon Road, Adelina, and Vista Chino, they kind of all three merge together and create sort of like a pond and then when I made a right on Adelina to go towards Date Palm, Adelina was completely flooded and Date Palm you couldn’t drive on the furthest right lane all the way almost until you get past Ramon,” said Meza.
Meza said after not receiving any information from City about storm preparedness, he contacted one of the local fire stations and was told he could stop by and pick up some sandbags.
With more rain in the forecast for early next week, Meza said he has some concerns about the incoming wet weather following his experience with tropical Storm Hillary.
“That flash flood really changed me. I was never much of a nervous or anxious person when it came to weather, and now anytime you mention the word rain on the forecast my nerves just start going on high alert,” explained Meza. He said he closely monitors the news to know how much rain is expected and what preparations he should take.
Indio resident John Garcia also spoke to News Channel 3 about his concerns with flooding in his neighborhood off Burr Street and McDaniel Lane.
During this storm, sandbags were able to divert water away from his property and prevented it from flooding his home like in previous storms. However, he’d like more assistance in handling any future flooding.
