College of the Desert participates in annual ‘ShakeOut’ earthquake drill

Staff and students at College of the Desert in Palm Desert took part in the annual Great California ShakeOut earthquake drill on Wednesday, which was organized by the Coachella Valley Disaster Preparedness Network.

CVDPN had a booth on the campus quad where volunteers handed out pamphlets with information on disaster preparedness, as well what not to do.

The drill happened at 10:19 a.m., during which everyone who participated was encouraged to drop, cover, and hold on. These steps are intended to reduce injury and death during earthquakes (learn why here). Staff and students then evacuated the buildings they were in and were led out to the quad by a building captain.
